Occupational Therapy

Providing Thoughtful and Individualized Services for Every Child, Birth through High School

Goal

Through the use of purposeful activity, the Occupational Therapy Department provides meaningful interventions that promote growth and development in targeted areas thereby enhancing educational performance skills. We view the child, the child's school environment and the interaction between the two in a holistic way. It is the dynamic nature of this interaction that is central to our treatment philosophy.

Comprehensive Services

In order to meet the individualized needs of all Lake Drive Program students, a wide variety of Occupational Therapy program options are offered. Intervention may occur in the OT/PT treatment room or in the classroom; where practicing targeted skills in a natural context has been shown to enhance performance.

  • Individual and/or Small Group treatment sessions are provided. Consultation with professional and paraprofessional staff is an integral part of any student's OT program and occurs weekly.
  • OT provides services designed to support students in their Mainstream or Inclusion Programming.
  • Independent Living Skills Program provides intervention within a variety of functional curriculum contexts.
  • Vocational Skills Training support is collaboratively developed with education staff and provided to high school students participating in the Morris County Vocational School programs.
  • Handwriting and Assistive Technology Programs are collaboratively developed, implemented, and supported in the classroom.
  • Adaptive Equipment needs are assessed and monitored for all Lake Drive Program students. This includes appropriate classroom, lunchroom, and therapy seating arrangements as well as provision of specialized materials that may enhance educational performance skills.
